The government of Telangana will soon provide ration cards to all eligible families. Applications for these cards will be accepted starting from October.
A cabinet sub-committee, led by Uttam Kumar, held its fourth meeting on Monday to finalize the plans for distributing ration cards. The committee is studying best practices from other states and reviewing eligibility criteria. They aim to finalize the process by the end of this month. After the next meeting, they plan to officially invite applications for the ration cards.
The proposed eligibility rules include an annual income limit of Rs 1.5 lakh for families in rural areas. Additionally, rural families must own less than 3.5 acres of wetland or 7.5 acres of dry land. In urban areas, the income limit is Rs 2 lakh, with more focus on annual income rather than land ownership.
Currently, there are 89.96 lakh ration cards in use, benefiting around 2.81 crore people across the state. The Minister assured that all eligible families will receive not only ration cards but also health cards, as promised by the Congress party.
The Minister also urged stakeholders, including opposition parties, to submit their suggestions by September 19 to help speed up the process.
