Hyderabad: N Uttam Kumar Reddy, the State Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister, has ordered a strong action against land encroachments within the Irrigation Department in Telangana. He wants officials to urgently reclaim these properties and secure them with fences to stop illegal takeovers.

In a high-level meeting at Dr B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat, the Minister emphasized that encroachments on irrigation lands, which are highly valuable, will not be tolerated. He instructed the Advocate General to appoint a special legal officer for the Irrigation Department to manage any legal issues that arise during the land recovery process.

Focusing on Hyderabad, the Minister pointed out illegal occupations near Gandipet and Rajendranagar. Out of 426.30 acres in these areas, 131.31 acres are encroached. Specifically, 81.26 acres belong to the ITIR and are under legal dispute, while 50.13 acres are directly encroached. Currently, 20 related cases are in the district court, and 2 more are in the High Court.
