Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has accused Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur of trying to suppress sexual harassment allegations against Wrestling Federation of India Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Phogat and other top wrestlers have been protesting at Jantar Mantar, demanding Singh’s arrest. Phogat claims that Thakur formed an oversight panel instead of taking concrete action. The wrestlers had previously reported the harassment to officials, but no action was taken. Singh has refused to resign and has stated that his tenure will end when a new committee is formed and elections are held. The protest has become a political issue with opposition leaders showing solidarity with the athletes and calling for Singh’s resignation.
