Hyderabad is seeing a lot of rain lately. To keep things running smoothly, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is taking action.
On Thursday, Managing Director Ashok Reddy and Executive Director Mayank Mittal told field officials to be on high alert. They are focusing on areas that flood easily and those that are low-lying. For the next two days, they want a special operation every morning from 6 AM to 9 AM to quickly handle any rain-related issues.
The MD wants floodwater cleared from affected areas. He also wants sewer jetting machines checked, with Deputy General Managers overseeing these tasks.
Officials need to address complaints about blocked pipes in homes and inspect deep manholes and areas with sewage issues. It’s important to check water quality during supply hours to ensure it’s safe to drink.
He insists that drinking water must remain uncontaminated. Extra caution is needed in slums and low-lying areas. The ED wants field workers to follow safety rules by wearing helmets, gloves, and gumboots. In places hit by floods, chlorine tablets will be given out to stop diseases from spreading through water.
The GHMC, police, and other agencies must work together to keep things running smoothly. Residents are warned not to open manhole covers for their safety. For help or to report issues, people can call the Water Board’s helpline at 155313.
