The Telangana Water Board is preparing to launch Green Water Tanker Services from November 1. The initiative follows directions from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. It aims to conserve groundwater and reduce pressure on drinking water resources. Under the plan, purified water from sewage treatment plants (STPs) will be supplied for the construction sector, industries, parks, greenery and other non-potable needs.

Water Board Managing Director K. Ashok Reddy reviewed the arrangements with senior officials on Friday, in view of the impending El Niño conditions. He directed them to speed up work on tanker registration, filling stations and online booking systems. He said all technical and operational arrangements must be completed within the stipulated time.

The MD asked officials to assess regional demand for purified water in construction, industries, commercial communities, government institutions and gated communities. Based on this, they will identify nearby government and private STPs and set up Green Water Filling Stations. Each station will have filling points, platforms, pumping facilities, flow meters and other basic infrastructure.

To ensure transparency, every tanker will carry special branding and a mandatory GPS device. Officials will monitor tanker movements, supply timings and delivery details in real time. E-POS machines will be installed at every filling station to digitally record the quantity of water filled, along with booking and supply details.

A special mobile app will bring several services onto a single platform:

  • Tanker registration and user registration
  • Online booking and tanker allocation
  • GPS tracking
  • Digital payments
  • Delivery confirmation

Users with their own tankers can use the services under specified guidelines. Users without tankers will get water through Water Board-registered tankers. The MD also suggested using purified water for construction work, plant nurturing, park maintenance, road cleaning and dust control, instead of potable water or groundwater. He directed coordination with government and private institutions, builders, developers and industrial associations.

The MD ordered continuous testing of water quality at the filling stations to ensure specified standards are met and the water is used only for non-potable purposes. He also directed awareness campaigns through print, electronic, digital and social media on booking procedures, filling station details and the benefits of purified water. The meeting was attended by Executive Directors Pankaj, Samrat Ashok and Santosh, Technical Director Prabhakar, Directors Narayan, Vasa Satyanarayana and Kiran Kumar, Chief General Managers and other senior officials.
