The Telangana state government has approved the construction of a Y-shaped flyover connecting Nampally to Lakdikapul in Hyderabad’s congested core area. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is currently preparing a detailed project report for the ambitious infrastructure project. The flyover will stretch 1.450 kilometers and feature three lanes designed to ease traffic congestion in one of the city’s busiest corridors. The route will begin from the front of Telugu University in Nampally, pass through the public garden, and run along the backside of the state assembly building before reaching Lakdikapul.
Traffic congestion between Nampally and Lakdikapul has been a persistent problem for motorists, with heavy vehicular movement throughout the day and night. The current route has three traffic signals, including one pre-left signal, which contribute to frequent bottlenecks regardless of whether the signals are operational. The situation becomes particularly challenging during assembly sessions when traffic restrictions are imposed, creating severe difficulties for commuters. The state government identified this chronic traffic problem as a priority area requiring immediate infrastructure intervention.
According to the proposed design, the flyover will run parallel to the railway line starting from Telugu University, passing through the public garden area and behind the assembly building. At Lakdikapul, the flyover will cross over the railway line. The unique Y-shaped design means the flyover will split into two separate routes at a certain point. One branch of the split will connect to an existing flyover near the tank area, providing multiple route options for motorists and distributing traffic flow more efficiently across the network.
The HMDA is working on finalizing the detailed project report under the direction of the state government. The flyover is being designed as a one-way corridor spanning 1.450 kilometers with three lanes to accommodate the high volume of traffic. The project aims to eliminate signal-related delays and provide uninterrupted traffic flow along this critical route that connects several important areas of Hyderabad. The construction timeline and estimated budget will be determined once the detailed project report is completed and approved by relevant authorities.
