A shipping container carrying narcotics drugs mixed with dried yeast was seized by the CBI at Visakhapatnam port. This has sparked a political battle between the ruling YSRCP and the opposition TDP. The YSRCP has drawn links between the company receiving the shipment and TDP leaders.

The YSRCP-owned Sakshi published an article claiming that the company, Sandhya Aqua Exports Private Ltd, has ties to TDP leaders. The party also alleged connections between the company and BJP State president Daggubati Purandeswari’s family. Meanwhile, Chandrababu Naidu expressed concern about Andhra Pradesh becoming a hub for drug trafficking.

The company clarified that the consignment was certified for yeast by Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture. They stated that only traces of narcotics were found in the 25,000-kilogram consignment of dry yeast. Visakhapatnam police refuted claims of interference by State officials in the drug seizure.
