The government of Telangana is dedicated to the welfare of journalists and their families. The government has allocated a fund of Rs 100 crores for journalists’ welfare and is taking all possible measures to protect them. Excise Minister V Srinivas Goud made this statement at an event in Mahbubnagar on Saturday. The minister emphasized that Telangana is the only state in India that has set up such a fund.
The minister distributed double bedroom houses to eligible journalists in Mahbubnagar. He said that 155 houses had been given out, and if any journalists are left out, they will receive them in the next phase. The minister reminded the audience that he had also studied journalism and knows the problems faced by journalists. He said that owning a house is a difficult dream for journalists who work hard to secure information on various issues.
The minister further observed that the state government had taken various measures to ensure their development and welfare, not just by providing houses and accreditation cards, but also by providing financial help during their treatment in hospitals. He recalled an instance where a journalist from Achampet fell ill, and the state government provided Rs 30 lakh for his treatment. The minister concluded by saying that journalists play an important and challenging role in society, and the government would continue to support them.
