The Cyberabad Traffic Police caught 218 people for drunk driving during a special weekend check on Saturday. Most of those caught were riding two-wheelers.
Out of the total offenders, 176 were two-wheeler riders, 23 were car drivers, and 19 were auto-rickshaw drivers. The police said that 20 people had blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels between 200 and 300 mg/100 ml. Another 10 people had very high BAC levels between 301 and 500 mg/100 ml.
All the offenders will be taken to court. The police warned that anyone caught drunk driving and causing a fatal accident could face serious charges.
Such cases will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. This law deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
If found guilty, the person could be sent to jail for up to 10 years and also face a fine.
