The Osmania University in Hyderabad is going to be improved with new facilities. These include a new reading complex for both men and women, six hostel buildings, and a 4 MegaWatt solar power plant. The university plans to spend Rs.500 crore on improving student learning facilities, research corpus fund, infrastructure development, beautification, and green campus. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. D Ravinder, has said that a centenary convention centre, open-air auditorium, and a research corpus fund have also been planned.
The State government has announced a grant of Rs.500 crore for infrastructure development in universities. The University has sent a proposal and is trying to get as much of the grant as possible. In order to make the campus closed to traffic, the University has proposed to the GHMC to lay a bypass road from Tarnaka till NCC Gate near the University College of Engineering. As part of green initiatives, officials have drawn plans for a sewage treatment plant, groundwater harvesting facilities, green waste management, and solid waste management besides restoration of lakes on the campus.
Prof. Ravinder had come up with a 21-point agenda to transform the university when he assumed charge as Vice-Chancellor. He said 80% of the agenda had already been completed. “In the first year, we focused on reforms. In the second term, concentration was on performance and now we are focusing on varsity’s transformation,” he said, adding that the 21-point agenda has helped the university climb up in the NIRF 2022 rankings to 22nd position as against 32 in 2021.
