Milestone in fight against blindness celebrated in Telangana

The Telangana government is working hard to stop blindness that can be controlled. They have screened 1.50 crore people as part of the Kanti Velugu program. The program has been successful in checking the eyes of over 1.52 crore people and giving glasses to more than 21.66 lakh people. Eye tests were done in 11,260 Gram Panchayat wards and 2981 Municipal wards across the State.

The first phase of the program started in August and gave glasses to 50 lakh people after checking the eyes of 1.50 crore people. The second phase started on January 18 in Khammam. The government wants to finish checking everyone’s eyes in 100 working days and involve public representatives from different departments.

The program has been successful, with over 17.41 lakh glasses given out, and more than 1.13 crore people having no eye problems. The government is committed to helping people with eye care.
