Hyderabad: A significant meeting was held by the North Zone Police to address the growing concerns of street dwellers and homeless individuals in the city. Key participants included officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Secunderabad Cantonment Board, Medical & Health Department, Women & Child Welfare Department, Labour Department, and various NGOs.

The discussion focused on two main issues. First, the need to provide immediate shelter for people living on the streets. Second, ensuring that deceased individuals, especially those found unidentified, are treated with dignity, as there has been a troubling increase in the discovery of unclaimed bodies.

Several important topics were brought up during the meeting, such as identifying suitable locations for temporary and permanent shelters. The need to improve access to essential medical and mental health services for street dwellers was also highlighted. Additionally, the group discussed creating respectful methods for handling and identifying deceased individuals.

NGOs will play a vital role in these efforts by helping with outreach and support for vulnerable populations. Everyone at the meeting agreed that a compassionate and coordinated approach is necessary to tackle these social challenges. The goal is to create a safer and more respectful environment for all citizens.

“We are determined to work together to create a comprehensive action plan that prioritizes the needs of vulnerable populations in our city,” said Ms. S. Rashmi Perumal, Deputy Commissioner of Police for North Zone, Hyderabad.

In the coming days, more detailed action plans are expected as the collaborative efforts continue to address these critical issues.
