Leader of Telangana farmers’ struggle Dodda Padma dies

Dodda Padma, a key figure in the Telangana farmers‘ armed struggle, has died at 99. She suffered a fall at her home in Chilukuru, Suryapet district, breaking her hip. She was taken to a private hospital in Hyderabad, but her health worsened, her daughter Kalpana reported.

Padma was the daughter of Katragadda Rangayya and Annapurna, respected communist leaders from Atlapragada in N. Kondur mandal, NTR district, Andhra Pradesh. From a young age, she was involved in communist activities and played a major role in opposing Nizam’s rule.

Her late husband, Dodda Narsaiah, was a former MLA for Huzurabad and a notable leader in the Communist Party of India (CPI). He was also a freedom fighter committed to the Telangana armed struggle. Padma’s impact on the movement is fondly remembered by many.
