Hyderabad: The project to widen roads for the new Metro Rail corridor from MGBS to Chandrayangutta in the Old City is progressing rapidly. NVS Reddy, the Managing Director of HAML, announced that the route has been carefully planned to minimize the impact on local properties. Initially, 1,100 properties were expected to be affected, but this has been reduced to 900 through careful redesign.

Reddy explained that daily meetings are held with engineering and revenue teams to track progress. So far, decisions have been made regarding 412 properties, and demolition is finished for 380 of them. Property owners have received Rs 360 crore in compensation.

The land acquisition and demolition process has faced challenges, as the area is densely populated with closely packed houses and numerous utility lines. To avoid disruptions, most work is done at night, according to Reddy. A detailed plan is in place to quickly acquire and demolish the remaining properties.

Preparations for metro construction are underway. Sites for future metro pillars have been selected, and marking has begun. These pillars will be about 25 meters apart. Soil tests will soon start to determine where to place metro stations and pillars. A DGPS survey has been conducted to ensure that historical sites are not disturbed, and temporary benchmarks have been established for survey work.

Utility lines, such as sewerage, water, and electricity, will be relocated to accommodate metro stations and pillars. As directed by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, overhead electric lines will be moved underground. Departments like the Water Board, GHMC, and TSSPDCL are preparing estimates for these changes.

Metro officials work closely with field staff from various departments to protect essential utilities, ensuring coordinated and efficient project execution.
