Peddapalli: In Garrepalli ZPHS, teachers have introduced an innovative way to teach students about saving money and understanding banking. They’ve created the School Bank of Garrepalli (SBG) where students can save their pocket money.
This initiative allows students to act as bank employees, managing the bank themselves. Principal V Kavitha came up with the idea, and it was put into action by social teacher P Venkatesh and N Ashalatha. Students take on roles such as managers, assistant managers, and customers.
The setup includes one manager, one assistant manager, three cashiers, three accountants, two clerks, and four help desk staff. Each student account holder receives a passbook and account number, allowing them to deposit money they receive from home.
If students need money, they use their passbook to fill out a debit voucher and make withdrawals. The bank operates without interfering with classes, opening at 8:30 am before school, from 12:30 pm to 1:15 pm, and again after school at 4:15 pm.
Currently, the Garrepalli Students’ Bank serves 207 student account holders. Parents appreciate this practical financial training alongside academic learning. One parent expressed gratitude for the teachers’ efforts to help children focus on their future finances.
The initiative has gained recognition, with Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Minister for IT, Industries and Legislative Affairs Duddilla Sridhar Babu, and Peddapelli District Collector praising the school’s faculty and students for this unique project.
