Heavy rains in Karnataka and nearby areas have caused a large increase in water at the Sangambanda Reservoir in Narayanpet district. Due to this, officials have opened seven gates to release water downstream and manage the rising levels.
The reservoir’s total capacity is 3.317 TMC, and the current level is 2.670 TMC. Inflows and outflows are being kept equal at 6,000 cusecs through the opened gates.
People gathered to watch the water flow from the gates. Authorities have warned those living downstream to stay vigilant as water levels in local streams might rise quickly.
The ongoing rains in Karnataka and Telangana have filled the reservoir, benefiting farmers with enough water for the next farming season. Officials are keeping a close watch to avoid flooding in low-lying areas.
The Sangambanda project is crucial for Makthal and nearby regions, and it has become very active with the new water inflows. More rain is expected soon, and officials plan to control water levels through regulated releases.
