The Abids Police have registered a criminal case after the Telangana Waqf Board reported a serious data theft incident involving official files from the Chairman’s chamber. According to officials, confidential note file information was allegedly stolen and converted from physical format into electronic form — marking a major security breach within the Board’s top office.
The complaint was lodged by Mohammed Asif Khan, Tahsildar and Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at the Telangana Waqf Board. The case was filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, following months of delay since the initial complaint in August.
FIR Registered Under BNS; Cyber and Physical Probe Launched
The Abids Police registered the FIR on October 24 after Khan submitted a reminder to the Station House Officer (SHO), referring to his earlier complaint dated August 7, 2025.
The Hyderabad City Police Commissioner’s office had earlier forwarded the complaint to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Zone on August 18 for necessary action.
Officials confirmed that Crime No. 261/2025 has been booked under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the case has been handed over to Sub-Inspector Naini Gourender Goud for investigation.
Waqf Board Alleges Deliberate Data Theft
The Telangana Waqf Board, in its complaint, accused unknown individuals of maliciously and fraudulently extracting confidential data by converting original physical files into digital copies without authorization.
Officials emphasized that the act was not a clerical error, but a deliberate and targeted theft aimed at compromising sensitive information.
A source from the Board stated that certain internal communications and policy-related files were found missing, prompting immediate verification of digital records and office systems.
Police Begin Multi-Layered Investigation
Investigators have begun probing both physical and cyber aspects of the case to determine how the original documents were accessed, copied, and converted into electronic format. The probe will also examine whether any insiders or external collaborators were involved.
Sub-Inspector S. Thirumalesh Yadav initially registered the case and handed it over for detailed investigation. Authorities are now tracking digital footprints, reviewing office access logs, and identifying possible suspects who might have had access to the Chairman’s chamber during the alleged breach.
