Azharuddin, born on February 8, 1963, in Hyderabad, studied at All Saints High School in Abids. He later earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Nizam College. His uncle, Zainulabuddin, motivated him to pursue cricket. In 1984, Azharuddin made an impressive international debut, scoring centuries in his first three Test matches. Over his 16-year cricket career, he played 99 Tests and 334 ODIs, leading the Indian team as captain starting in 1989.
After retiring from cricket, Azharuddin entered politics. He joined the Congress Party on February 19, 2009, and won a parliamentary seat in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, that year. In 2018, he took on the role of working president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC).
