Hyderabad: A shocking murder in Kukatpally has seen progress as police captured the suspects, Harsha and Roshan, in Ranchi after a widespread search. This case has revealed serious flaws in how domestic workers are hired and checked in supposedly safe gated communities.
Harsha and Roshan, who worked as domestic helpers and came from Ranchi, were caught on Saturday. They were employed through a Kolkata agency. The pair brutally murdered 50-year-old Renu Agarwal by tying her up, attacking her with a pressure cooker, and cutting her throat while her family was away.
The criminals escaped with approximately 7 tolas of gold, 16 watches, and old Motorola phones, leaving on a scooter near Hafeezpet railway station and planning to reach Ranchi via Secunderabad railway station.
Their suspicious behavior caught a cab driver’s attention when they booked a ride to Ranchi for Rs 15,000, avoiding police checkpoints. This tip, combined with CCTV footage, helped police track and arrest them. Cooperation between CCS, SOT, and local police was crucial in their capture after they attempted to exchange gold for cash at a Ranchi gold shop. Commissioner Avinash Mahanty stated they will be brought to Hyderabad after appearing in a local court.
The incident highlights risks from poorly vetted domestic staff hired through agencies. The suspects had multiple identities and criminal pasts. Harsha struggled with substance abuse and had been in rehab in Kolkata. Roshan had a history of property crimes in Jharkhand and was looking to commit more locally.
