The Bharat Mala Project is a major road development plan aimed at improving roads across India. However, some contractors are taking advantage of this project to engage in illegal activities, especially in the Alampur constituency of Telangana. These illegal activities involve the unauthorized extraction of natural resources from government lands, particularly near the Vaddepalli Polytechnic College.
Former Alampur MLA and AICC Secretary, Dr. SA Sampath Kumar, is strongly opposing these illegal excavations. He expressed anger at local contractors, particularly those linked to the Mega Engineering Company, for their involvement in these unlawful activities. According to Sampath Kumar, certain officials, who are supposed to protect natural resources, are instead helping the illegal operations due to political pressure from local leaders like the current Alampur MLA Vijayudu and MLC Chella Venkatrama Reddy.
After discovering the illegal excavations near government land close to Vaddepalli Polytechnic College, Dr. Sampath Kumar immediately asked local revenue officers and police to take action. In response, the authorities quickly seized several vehicles belonging to the Mega Engineering Company involved in the illegal digging. These vehicles were then taken to the police station, showing the seriousness of the issue and Sampath Kumar’s commitment to protecting public land.
Accusations of Corruption:
Sampath Kumar openly accused the local MLA and officials of corruption, claiming they have been protecting the contractors involved in these illegal activities. He expressed concern that those responsible for safeguarding public resources are instead exploiting them for personal gain. This highlights a deeper issue of corruption within the local political and administrative system, which Sampath Kumar aims to address.
Congress Party’s Stance:
Dr. Sampath Kumar emphasized the Congress Party’s strong position against corruption. He said that under Telangana Congress chief Revanth Reddy’s leadership, corruption will not be tolerated. One of the Congress Party’s main goals is to stop contractors who try to loot government properties. This is in line with the party’s broader policies on fighting corruption and protecting resources.
Recommendations:
1. Strict Enforcement of Laws: The government should strengthen its laws and regulations to prevent illegal excavations and protect natural resources.
2. Action Against Corrupt Officials: A thorough investigation should be conducted into the involvement of local political figures and officials in illegal activities, with appropriate legal action taken.
3. Public Awareness Campaigns: Programs should be launched to educate the public about the importance of protecting natural resources and reporting illegal activities.
4. Transparent Resource Management: Natural resources should be managed in a transparent and accountable way, with regular checks to prevent illegal exploitation.
Dr. SA Sampath Kumar’s swift action to stop the illegal excavations near Alampur is a positive step toward protecting public assets. However, the situation also shows the urgent need to address deeper issues of corruption and misuse of political power. The Congress Party’s strong anti-corruption stance, as emphasized by Sampath Kumar, is likely to resonate with the public, especially in areas where illegal activities threaten the local environment and livelihoods.
