Hyderabad: The Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) has issued notices to RBM Hospital in Boduppal, Hyderabad, after discovering serious malpractice. An anaesthetist at the hospital, Dr. Sudarshan Rao, was performing heart-related procedures such as angiograms, despite lacking the necessary qualifications. Shockingly, qualified doctors at the hospital were found supporting this dangerous practice.
The TGMC received complaints that Dr. Sudarshan Rao, an anaesthetist, was working in the hospital’s cardiology department, conducting heart scans and performing invasive procedures like angiograms and stent placements. A TGMC inspection team, consisting of Dr. Naresh Kumar and Dr. Pratibha Lakshmi, visited the hospital to investigate.
Upon investigation, the team found that the hospital did not have any certificates or records verifying Dr. Sudarshan Rao’s qualifications. Moreover, many staff members were unaware of the names of the doctors working at the hospital, raising further concerns about the facility’s management.
The hospital’s heart surgeon, Dr. KK Reddy, claimed that only seven procedures had been performed. However, after checking the records, the TGMC team discovered that 15 procedures had been conducted, all reportedly performed by Dr. Sudarshan Rao. The inspection team also found that some records were missing, and information had been erased, which was a violation of the PCPNDT Act.
In another case in Boduppal, the TGMC found a homoeopathy doctor, Shankar, running the Vijaya Health Clinic under the false name of Dr. Vamshi, despite having no qualifications. Similarly, an unqualified person named Satyanarayana was found practicing at Mahalakshmi Clinic under the name of Dr. Rishikesh.
Yet another case involved an associate professor, Dr. Paramesh, who was running Happy Children’s Clinic with the assistance of an unqualified person, Mahesh Kumar Goud. Dr. Pratibha Lakshmi confirmed that evidence from these clinics would be submitted to the Council, and notices had already been sent to Dr. Sudarshan Rao. Show cause notices will also be served to the doctors registered with TGMC who were enabling these unqualified individuals.
The TGMC Chairman, K. Mahesh Kumar, expressed deep concern over registered doctors encouraging quacks and unqualified practitioners. He stated that strict action would be taken, including suspending the doctors involved, removing their names from the medical council, and cancelling the registration of hospitals misleading patients. The searches and inspections were carried out by Dr. Vamshi, Dr. Suresh, and others.
