As per orders from the Union Government, the Andhra Pradesh Government now requires birth certificates for those born after October 1, 2023. Notarised affidavits and SSC certificates will no longer be accepted as proof of birth in Government offices.

Chief Secretary Jawahar Reddy stated that a birth certificate is the only document that confirms a person’s place and date of birth. This certificate is now necessary for obtaining a passport, Aadhar card, driving license, voter ID, and for registering marriages. It is also required for admission to schools in Andhra Pradesh.

To make the process easier, the Government has opened 14,752 registration centres in municipalities, hospitals, and panchayats. Officials have been instructed to issue birth certificates within a week of application.
