Attapur Police in Hyderabad have arrested a notorious rowdy sheeter Syed Mohammed, also known as Chango, within 12 hours of registering a case against him. The 25-year-old accused, who works as a centering labourer and auto driver, was apprehended following a violent incident involving threats and extortion.
The incident took place on September 4 when Chango allegedly trespassed into the house of Noor Jahan Begum in the Attapur area. According to police reports, he held a knife to the throat of her son, Abdul Rehman, and demanded ₹20,000 while threatening to kill him. The accused also allegedly threatened Noor Jahan Begum with the knife and verbally abused her during the confrontation.
Chango managed to flee the scene when eyewitnesses attempted to catch him. The victim’s family lodged a formal complaint at Attapur Police Station on September 13, which led to the registration of a case under Sections 308(4), 329(4), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with Section 25(1)(A) of the Arms Act.
The Attapur Police, working in coordination with the Rajendranagar Zone Task Force, launched a swift operation to track down the accused. During the arrest, police seized four knives and a mobile phone from his possession. The weapons are believed to have been used in the commission of the crime and possibly in other criminal activities.
Following his arrest, Chango was produced before the court, which ordered him to be remanded to judicial custody. The police are investigating whether the accused has been involved in other similar criminal activities in the area, given his status as a known rowdy sheeter in the locality.
