A Gulf Air aircraft carrying 154 passengers made an emergency diversion to Mumbai early Sunday morning following a bomb threat targeting Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
Flight GF274 was traveling from Bahrain to Hyderabad when airport officials received a threatening email at 3 a.m. The message claimed explosives had been placed aboard the aircraft.
The plane had departed Bahrain at 10:20 p.m. on Saturday night. Officials were expecting the aircraft to arrive in Hyderabad at 4:55 a.m. Sunday morning. Security concerns forced authorities to redirect the flight to Mumbai instead.
Airport security teams followed standard safety procedures during the incident. The aircraft underwent thorough inspections while passengers waited on board.
Gulf Air confirmed the diversion in an official statement. The Bahrain-based airline explained that safety protocols required the emergency landing. All passengers and crew remained safe throughout the ordeal.
After completing security checks, the flight resumed its journey. Flight GF274 finally touched down at Hyderabad Airport at 11:31 a.m., several hours behind schedule.
This incident marks another security scare for Hyderabad aviation facilities. Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has faced similar threats in recent months.
Last June, a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Hyderabad returned to Germany after receiving bomb threats. Air traffic controllers advised the airline to head back to its departure point for safety reasons.
Begumpet Airport also experienced a bomb threat in June. Security teams conducted extensive searches before declaring the threat a hoax. The facility primarily handles charter flights and military operations since commercial services moved to Shamshabad in 2008.
Authorities continue investigating these recurring security threats. Airport officials maintain heightened security measures to protect passengers and staff from potential dangers.
