Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is working hard to improve the urban infrastructure in the Old City, especially in the Charminar zone. This area is very important for the city’s traffic management and overall connectivity. On Wednesday, Commissioner Amrapali Kata visited key sites in the zone to check on the progress of important infrastructure projects, including plans for road-widening and new flyovers.
During her visit, Commissioner Amrapali focused on the proposed road-widening projects. She understands that these projects are crucial for reducing traffic congestion and making the roads safer for everyone. The commissioner also reviewed plans for new flyovers, which are needed to handle the increasing number of vehicles on the roads.
She was joined by Devanand, the Chief Engineer of Projects, Dattupanth, the Superintending Engineer of Projects, and Majeed, the City Planner for the Charminar zone. Teams of technical and supporting staff were also present during the inspection.
The commissioner inspected the areas where the road-widening projects are planned. These projects include widening the road to 100 feet from NH Bangalore Highway to Shastripuram Junction. Another project proposes widening the road to 80 feet between Azeem Hotel and Church Gate. There is also a plan to widen the road to 60 feet from Chandrayangutta X Roads to Barkas Road via Chandrayangutta police station. Additionally, a proposal exists to widen and develop a 60 and 40-foot road from Lucky Star Hotel to Hafeez Baba Nagar via Phoolbagh.
Amrapali highlighted that these road expansions are necessary to accommodate the growing traffic, ensuring a smoother flow of vehicles and reducing congestion.
The commissioner also discussed the flyover proposals at Hafez Baba Nagar Junction, Bandlaguda Junction, and a Left-Side Down Ramp at Owaisi Junction. She inspected the ongoing flyover construction from Aramghar to Zoo Park.
Amrapali directed the Town Planning wing to speed up the removal of encroachments to help complete the projects on time. She stressed the need to quickly acquire the remaining structures to avoid delays in finishing the flyover. Any partially dismantled structures should be dealt with immediately.
Finally, she emphasized the importance of sticking to the project timelines. This includes preparing sketch plans for buildings that will be affected by the developments, especially where these plans are still pending. The commissioner also highlighted the need for close coordination with various stakeholders to ensure that all legal and procedural steps are carefully followed, preventing any delays in the project’s completion.
