Hyderabad: A man has been caught by Uppal police for tricking hundreds of bald men with false promises of hair re-growth. He claimed that using a special oil and shampoo could help people get their hair back.
Many men who had lost their hair came to Uppal Bhagayath, hoping the treatment would work. Special tents were set up, and each person was charged Rs 1,000 for the oil and shampoo. The event attracted large crowds on Wednesday.
The man behind the scam has been identified as Harish, from Rajanayak Thanda in Suryapet district. He advertised his so-called miracle treatment on social media and even made a mobile app for booking appointments.
People from all over Telangana and Andhra Pradesh believed the ads and came to try the treatment. Harish and his team showed people how to apply the oil and shampoo, which made the crowd grow even more.
As the number of people increased, local residents became worried and informed the police. The Uppal police arrived, arrested Harish, and started questioning him.
This is not the first time such a scam has happened. Earlier this month, a Delhi-based barber and social media influencer named Wakil Salmani ran a similar scheme in Chandulal Baradari, Old City.
Salmani offered a free lotion that he claimed could bring back hair. Many people rushed to try it. While some said it helped, others suffered side effects like burning, skin problems, and swelling, and had to be taken to the hospital.
