Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police have uncovered a child trafficking racket and arrested five people. A five-year-old girl who had been kidnapped from Chandrayangutta was safely rescued.
The police arrested a couple, Syed Javeed Pasha (51) and Shaista Parveen (40), who live in Saleem Nagar Colony, Malakpet. Three other people were also arrested: Parveen Banu (40), Jawagi Sunitha Kumari (50), and Kappala Rajendra Prasad (39).
The case began on April 20, when the police received a complaint that a young girl named Mariyam Saadi had gone missing near the Gandhi statue in Chandrayangutta. Officers reviewed CCTV footage, which helped them trace the suspects’ location.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Patil Kantilal Subhash said that Javeed and Shaista admitted to kidnapping the girl and selling her to Parveen Banu for ₹1.3 lakh. Parveen was then trying to sell the child to Sunitha and Rajendra when the police intervened and rescued her.
The DCP explained that the kidnapping was carefully planned. Javeed wore a helmet, Shaista wore a burqa, and they covered their motorcycle’s number plate with cloth to avoid being caught. They started from Shareef Nagar at night and drove through several areas before spotting the girl and taking her.
Further investigation revealed that Rajendra works as an agent at Nova Fertility Centre in Banjara Hills, while Sunitha runs a first aid clinic in Uppal. Both of them had previously been accused in a child trafficking case in Vikhroli, East Mumbai, Maharashtra. Police believe the arrested individuals are part of a larger group involved in buying and selling children.
