CV Anand, Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana, has announced plans to launch a special drive to address rising complaints against transgender individuals involved in begging rackets and extortion activities. The senior police official made this announcement through a social media post after noticing an increase in such complaints recently. During his tenure as Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, Anand had previously conducted a similar drive to control such activities when complaints had surged. The DGP stated that he will instruct all Commissioners of Police across the state to take up this special initiative once again to curb the menace.

The announcement comes at a time when the Telangana government has been actively working to integrate transgender persons into mainstream society through various employment opportunities. The state administration has recruited transgender individuals as Traffic Assistants and also employed them in HYDRAA (Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency). According to the DGP’s statement, these transgender employees have performed their duties exceptionally well in these roles without generating any complaints. This initiative represents the government’s dual approach of providing legitimate employment opportunities while simultaneously taking action against illegal activities.

The special drive is expected to focus on distinguishing between genuine transgender individuals seeking livelihood and organized rackets that exploit the transgender community’s identity for illegal activities. The police action aims to protect law-abiding citizens from harassment while ensuring that transgender persons who have joined government services and other legitimate professions continue to be supported in their integration into mainstream society. CV Anand emphasized that the government remains committed to encouraging transgender persons to lead dignified lives through proper employment channels while maintaining law and order in the state.
