BJP Appoints District Presidents, Women Leaders Express Discontent

The BJP leadership in Telangana has announced the appointment of district party unit presidents ahead of the crucial local body elections, which are expected to take place within the next two months. The final decision came after consultations with senior leaders, including BJP State President and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy. However, the selection process has stirred dissatisfaction among women leaders at the district level.

In the previous term, the BJP had appointed five women as district presidents. This time, however, no women were given these posts, leading to disappointment among female party members. K Sridevi Reddy, a BJP leader from Nalgonda, expressed her concerns while speaking to Hans India. She highlighted that the BJP, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, has been vocal about empowering women through various schemes and initiatives rooted in the concept of “Nari Shakti.”

Despite this commitment, Sridevi Reddy remarked that women leaders were overlooked during the selection of district presidents. She pointed out the challenges women face in politics, describing it as a male-dominated field where women must endure sacrifices, societal hurdles, and criticism. “We have been working hard for the party, but when it comes to distributing positions, women have not been considered,” she lamented.

Sridevi Reddy also criticized the preference given to newer members over experienced party workers. She cited the example of Varshit Reddy, a recent entrant to the BJP who joined just a year ago, being appointed to a prominent position. She urged the party leadership to reconsider the appointments and ensure adequate representation for women in leadership roles.

She further emphasized that strengthening the party’s cadre and network at the district level is crucial ahead of the local body elections. These elections are seen as a litmus test for the BJP’s organizational strength, particularly after the party’s notable performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where it secured eight MP seats from Telangana.

As the BJP gears up for the upcoming elections, women leaders hope their contributions and dedication to the party will be recognized, ensuring a more inclusive leadership structure.
