The BJP has announced that it will launch an awareness campaign about the Women’s Reservation Bill in 50,000 villages in Odisha. They will also highlight Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts towards empowering women. The announcement was made by senior party leader and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, along with BJP State president Manmohan Samal.
Pradhan stated that the party will collaborate with local organizations to hold awareness meetings in these villages. Currently, there are 81 women MPs in the Lok Sabha, but this number will increase to 182 once the Bill is implemented. Similarly, the Odisha Assembly has 18 women MLAs, but this will increase to 49.
The Women’s Reservation Bill, which reserves one-third of the seats in the Lok Sabha and State assemblies for women, received unanimous support from the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. The Lok Sabha had already passed it on Wednesday. However, the Bill will only come into effect after the completion of the census and delimitation exercises, and after receiving majority approval from the State assemblies.
Earlier, Pradhan celebrated with hundreds of women who were cheering for the passage of the Bill in Parliament. He mentioned Droupadi Murmu, a tribal sister from Mayurbhanj district, who is now the President of India. Pradhan assured the gathering that Modi ji will help them become MLAs or MPs. He emphasized that the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam will change India’s fate and praised Modi’s commitment towards women-led development.
Pradhan also highlighted the various initiatives undertaken by Modi for women’s empowerment, such as Ujjwala Yojana, Mudra Scheme, Women Self-Help Groups, and Swachha Bharat. He concluded by stating that Modi has consistently worked for the welfare of women.
