Endowments Minister Konda Surekha announced on Friday that the plan to hold the Bonalu festival for Bhadrakali Ammavaru in Warangal is on hold. This decision came after some public objections and false reports spread by various media outlets.
The Minister explained that the festival was postponed because of fears that some people might cause trouble. They might connect local political issues with the goddess, possibly leading to unrest and conflicts during the event.
She emphasized that the local Executive Officer (EO), Vedic scholars, and the government have always maintained that only vegetarian offerings would be made at the Bhadrakali Ammavari Temple. These decisions align with Agama Shastra and the recommendations of Vedic scholars, who believe the event should take place at the temple. However, misinformation suggesting non-vegetarian offerings were planned confused the public. The Minister criticized those spreading falsehoods for political gains.
Minister Surekha released a statement on Friday detailing the temporary cancellation of the Bonalu event initially set for June 22 at the temple. She emphasized that the government’s main goal is to maintain pure devotion to the Goddess and protect sacred customs.
