Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson recently purchased a $4.7 million mansion with a moat and nine bedrooms. This purchase came after Johnson complained about his salary of $200,000. The home, called Brightwell Manor, was built on the site of a 900-year-old castle and features Tudor and Georgian architecture. The sale occurred just weeks before BBC chairman Richard Sharp resigned over his role in helping Johnson secure an £800,000 loan.

The house is 8,128 square feet and sits on five acres of land, with additional features including a guest cottage, garage, tennis court, stables, and five bathrooms. The Labour Party criticized Johnson’s purchase and accused him of “creaming” the UK people to pay for his legal bills related to investigations into Downing Street parties during coronavirus lockdowns.

Reports indicate that in the five months following his resignation as prime minister, Johnson has earned over £3 million through speaking engagements and book deals. There are also reports that Johnson and his family resided in properties owned by Tory donors without paying rent.
