Hyderabad – Senior BRS leader B Vinod Kumar has urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to act quickly and push the Defence Ministry to set up Sainik Schools in Telangana. He said students from the state are being left out of a major opportunity to join these key military training institutions.
Speaking at a press meet, Vinod Kumar highlighted a serious issue affecting Telangana’s students. A recent update from Sainik School Korukonda dated April 20, 2025, revealed a major policy change. Starting from the 2025-2026 academic year, the 67% domicile quota at Sainik Schools in Korukonda and Kalikiri, both in Andhra Pradesh, will be reserved only for students from Andhra Pradesh.
This move shuts out students from Telangana, who previously qualified for this quota due to the shared administrative history and the absence of a Sainik School in their own state.
Vinod Kumar criticized the new rule, calling it unfair and harmful to Telangana’s youth. He pointed out that many students from the state, especially those from rural and poor backgrounds, now have fewer chances to get into these prestigious schools.
He urged the Chief Minister to immediately reach out to the Defence Ministry. His request: allow Telangana students to remain eligible for the 67% quota at Korukonda and Kalikiri until Telangana gets its own fully operational Sainik School.
“Telangana has a long history of sending brave men and women into the Indian Armed Forces,” said Vinod Kumar. “Blocking our students from these schools takes away their dreams and limits their chances to serve the nation.”
He stressed the importance of equal opportunities and called for urgent action to protect the future of Telangana’s aspiring cadets.
