Hyderabad: The BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) working president, KT Rama Rao, has expressed strong opposition to the government’s plans to install a statue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in front of the Secretariat.
KT Rama Rao, also known as KTR, stated that if the BRS comes into power, they will remove the Rajiv Gandhi statue and instead install a statue of Telangana Talli at the same location. He questioned the relevance of Rajiv Gandhi to Telangana, emphasizing that the region should honor its own figures.
KTR further mentioned that the BRS government would also consider renaming the international airport at Shamshabad. He pointed out that it is common for states to name airports after prominent personalities from their own region. For example, the airport in Mumbai is named after Chhatrapati Shivaji. Similarly, KTR suggested that the airport in Telangana should be named after a notable figure from the state.
The BRS leader also assured that any decision to relocate the Rajiv Gandhi statue would be made in consultation with Congress leaders.
