The Union Cabinet has granted approval for the widening of National Highway-167 from Gudebellur to Mahabubnagar on the Hyderabad-Panaji Economic Corridor to a 4-lane standard. The ambitious infrastructure project spans a total length of 80.01 kilometers and carries a capital cost of Rs 3,175.08 crore. This development marks a significant milestone in enhancing connectivity and economic growth across Telangana.
The project alignment is strategically designed to integrate with two major national highways, NH-150 and NH-167N, providing seamless connectivity to key economic, social, and logistics nodes throughout the state. The upgraded corridor will facilitate faster movement of goods and passengers across the region, strengthening the overall transportation infrastructure of Telangana.
The widened highway will enhance multi-modal integration by connecting three PM GatiShakti Economic Nodes, nine Social Nodes, and seven Logistic Nodes. This comprehensive connectivity framework is expected to boost economic activities and improve access to essential services across multiple districts in the state.
The project covers six districts including Mahabubnagar, Narayanpet, Raichur, Devarkadra, Makthal, and Hyderabad. The improved infrastructure is expected to significantly reduce travel time by 50 percent, cutting the journey from 3 hours to just 1.5 hours. This reduction in travel time will benefit both commercial transport and daily commuters.
The approval reflects the persistent efforts of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who actively pursued the project with the Government of India to accelerate infrastructure growth in Telangana. Under his leadership, strategic road and economic corridor projects are being fast-tracked to strengthen connectivity, boost investment, and drive balanced regional development across the state.
The upgraded corridor will boost regional growth by linking farms, industries, and trade routes across the covered districts. The project will integrate key economic zones including the NICDC, pharmaceutical and medical clusters, and Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Hyderabad, creating better opportunities for industrial growth and trade expansion.
The highway widening project is expected to generate substantial employment opportunities during its construction phase. The project will create 14.4 lakh human-days of employment, providing work opportunities for thousands of workers and contributing to the economic welfare of local communities in the region.
The infrastructure development initiative aligns with the broader vision of enhancing connectivity across Telangana and improving the state’s position as a major economic hub in southern India. The project is part of ongoing efforts to modernize the road network and support the movement of goods between major cities and industrial centers across the region.
