Hyderabad: The state Cabinet plans to meet on Monday to decide on local body elections, which might start in July. This afternoon gathering will be the first with the newly appointed ministers.
Sources say the Cabinet will discuss these overdue elections. Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and Panchayat Raj Minister Dhanasri Anasuya (Seethakka) have indicated that an election notification might be issued by the end of the month.
During his visit to Khammam, Srinivasa Reddy mentioned that the Cabinet meeting would provide clarity on election dates. Initially, elections for ZPTC and MPTC seats will occur, followed by polls for sarpanches and municipal bodies.
The Cabinet will also consider the Rythu Bharosa scheme and announce a payment date since the monsoon has begun, and farmers are working on their fields. Additionally, the state government is set to fulfill another promise from the six guarantees made by the Congress party during the 2023 elections, which may also be discussed.
Srinivasa Reddy has urged party leaders to prepare for local body elections and resolve village issues. He emphasized that only candidates with strong winning prospects will be chosen. He also mentioned that the state will soon transfer the Rythu Bharosa funds and pay the pending bonus for superfine paddy to farmers.
