Telangana Government to Release Caste Survey Report on February 2

The Telangana State Government is preparing to release the long-awaited Caste Survey report on February 2 as part of its efforts to conduct local body elections. The State Planning Department, which is the nodal agency for this survey, will submit a draft report to the government in the next few days. After reviewing the draft, the final report will be made public.

Once the report is released, the Dedication Commission will review the findings and present its recommendations. These recommendations will play a key role in speeding up the process for local body elections. This step follows a directive from the Telangana High Court, which had earlier asked the government to form the Dedication Commission in response to a writ petition filed by Backward Classes leader R. Krishnaiah.

The survey, conducted through a door-to-door household approach, identified 1.6 crore families across the state. The data collected will help determine caste-based population statistics, which will guide the allocation of reservations in local bodies. This aims to provide better political representation for marginalized communities.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy recently reviewed the successful completion of the caste survey. During the review, he emphasized that the findings would contribute to the social empowerment of Backward Classes (BCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), minorities, and weaker sections. The Chief Minister also pointed out that the survey reflects the government’s dedication to fulfilling its election promises.

The statistical data from the survey will be used by the BC Commission to finalize quotas for BCs in local bodies ahead of the elections. The comprehensive household survey, officially named the “Socio-Economic Education Employment Political Caste Survey 2024,” was launched on November 6 and completed in early December across all districts.

This survey is expected to play a crucial role in shaping policies and promoting inclusive development in Telangana.
