The central government has sanctioned a survey for the proposed Regional Ring Rail around Hyderabad, marking a significant step towards enhancing connectivity between the city’s outer areas and surrounding districts. Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh informed Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy about the approval in a written reply submitted on March 6.
The survey has been approved as the first step towards preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the regional ring rail network. According to the Union minister, the proposed railway alignment is likely to run along the Regional Ring Road and is currently being finalised in consultation with the Telangana government.
MP Kiran Kumar Reddy, representing the Bhongir constituency, raised the issue under Rule 377 in the Lok Sabha regarding the railway line project in Hyderabad. The approval comes as a boost to the state government’s plan to provide an integrated road and rail network connecting the Outer Ring Road, Regional Ring Road, and neighbouring districts.
The Union minister clarified that after the DPR is prepared, the project would require consultations with various stakeholders, including the state government. The project will need necessary approvals from multiple central authorities before final sanction is granted.
Ravneet Singh stated that project approval would require appraisal by NITI Aayog and the Union Finance Ministry. These approvals are mandatory steps in the process before the regional ring rail project can receive final sanction from the central government.
The proposed railway network aims to improve transport connectivity between districts surrounding Hyderabad and provide a significant boost to regional economic development. The ring rail is expected to integrate seamlessly with the existing Regional Ring Road infrastructure being developed by the state government.

MP Kiran Kumar Reddy emphasized that once completed, the Regional Ring Rail is expected to improve transport connectivity between districts surrounding Hyderabad and provide a boost to regional economic development. The railway alignment running along the Regional Ring Road will create an integrated transport corridor serving multiple districts.
