Hyderabad: KT Rama Rao, the BRS working president, highlighted that the Centre’s recent clarification in Parliament has debunked false claims made by the Congress about Telangana’s debt under BRS rule.

On Monday, the Union government clarified that the state’s debt at the end of the BRS term was Rs 3.5 lakh crore, contradicting the Rs 8 lakh crore figure alleged by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and leaders from Congress and BJP.

“This revelation exposes the misinformation spread by Revanth Reddy and his group to tarnish BRS before the elections,” said Rama Rao. He questioned if those spreading these falsehoods would now apologize to the public.

Rama Rao emphasized that BRS was responsible with loans, using them for long-term projects like Mission Bhagiratha, Mission Kakatiya, Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, and the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. By 2023-24, Telangana’s assets were valued at Rs 4.15 lakh crore, exceeding its debt by Rs 64,579 crore.

He noted that assets had increased by over Rs 50,000 crore annually for six years, showcasing the financial strategy under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

Turning criticisms back on Congress, Rama Rao accused Revanth Reddy of reckless borrowing without creating assets. “He admitted in the Assembly to borrowing over Rs 1.5 lakh crore since December 2023. Where are the projects and welfare schemes?” he asked, warning of an impending financial crisis in Telangana. Rama Rao urged Congress to focus on real development instead of hiding behind falsehoods. “Parliament’s records have revealed the truth. The public deserves honesty,” he concluded.
