Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has reassured handloom workers in Andhra Pradesh that he will support them until their lives become prosperous.
He addressed concerns about the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on handloom garments, promising to take up the issue with the GST Council for its removal. If unsuccessful, he assured that his government would reimburse the tax to the weavers.
During the National Handloom Day celebrations at Mary’s Stella College in Vijayawada, Chandrababu Naidu criticized the previous YS Jagan government for allegedly dismantling schemes for handloom workers. He outlined his government’s plan to introduce reforms and support the handloom sector. Naidu emphasized the Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) commitment to the underprivileged, announcing plans to introduce a special law for their protection.
He highlighted an allocation of Rs 1.5 lakh crore for the BC Sub Plan in the budget, demonstrating his government’s dedication to uplifting backward classes. Naidu also promised to implement 34% reservations in local body elections and to strive for 33% reservations for backward classes in legislatures by advocating for a law in Parliament. He reiterated his commitment to social justice by ensuring representation for backward classes in nominated posts, citing his government’s appointment of a BC speaker and the importance given to BC communities in the cabinet.
Further announcements included the provision of 16,347 jobs through the Mega District Selection Committee (Mega DSC), repealing the Land and Titling Act, and launching 100 Anna Canteens on August 15th. Naidu encouraged philanthropists to use these canteens for charitable food distribution. He also revealed plans to establish skill centers to enhance youth employability.
Chandrababu Naidu expressed his belief in the power of collective effort to eradicate economic disparities and announced a Rs 10 crore grant for the health insurance of handloom workers.
