A senior Chinese diplomat, Minister Counsellor Chen Jianjun, has stated that the situation of “emergency control” at the India-China border is a thing of the past and that the current situation is stable. The two countries are maintaining communication through diplomatic and military channels to promote normalized management and control of the border. Although there was a clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers in December 2020, resulting in minor injuries, the overall situation is stable. The relationship between the two countries had deteriorated significantly following a fierce clash in Galwan Valley in June 2020, but China has remained committed to pushing it back on the track of healthy and steady development. The two countries share similar positions on many regional and international issues and have extensive common interests in South-South cooperation, development and poverty reduction, climate change, and energy security. China supports India in fulfilling its role during its presidency of G20 and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), and bilateral trade continues to grow. Cultural, scientific, technological, educational, and other people-to-people exchanges and cooperation have resumed in an orderly manner. China and India could jointly maintain the stability of the international order by sharing oriental wisdom with the world. The two countries working together will bear on the future of Asia and beyond.
