According to Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in India, Chen Jianjun, China has issued over 18,000 visas to Indian citizens in the last three months. This is a positive development as the number of visa applications for China has been increasing steadily since January. Jianjun expressed his hope that India will reciprocate by granting more visas to Chinese citizens.
Of the 18,560 visas issued to Indians since January, 9,409 were student visas. This is a significant increase from the past few months and highlights the growing interest of Indian students in studying in China.
Despite this positive trend, Jianjun noted that the number of visa applications is still below pre-pandemic levels. This suggests that there is still some hesitation among people to travel internationally due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Overall, the increase in visa applications is a positive sign for bilateral relations between India and China. It shows that people are eager to travel and engage with each other’s cultures despite the challenges posed by the pandemic.
