Hyderabad has introduced new measures to improve traffic flow. The city police have launched 50 traffic patrolling bikes and deployed 100 traffic marshals to manage traffic effectively. These efforts aim to increase vehicle speed from 18 kmph to 23 kmph within the Hyderabad Commissionerate limits.
CV Anand, the Hyderabad City Police Commissioner and Chairman of the Hyderabad City Security Council (HCSC), flagged off the new patrol bikes and marshals. This initiative is part of a Public-Private Partnership, where police and civil society work together for smoother traffic operations.
The HCSC plans to expand the number of marshals from 100 to 500. Each bike comes with advanced tools, such as a PA system, a UHF handheld set, an LED baton, a dashboard camera, GPS tracking, a first-aid kit, and more. These tools will help in effective traffic management.
In a pioneering move, the traffic department has hired transgender individuals, providing them with employment opportunities. Plans are in place to offer them roles in other departments, like the GHMC.
Traffic marshals, supervised by local police, are expected to perform their duties responsibly. The Commissioner emphasized that these programs will significantly improve the city’s traffic system. Additionally, three cranes have been allocated to aid in traffic management.
A group of 100 trained marshals will support traffic police at busy intersections. They have completed 15 days of intensive training with the Hyderabad Traffic Police.
Several organizations, including Apollo Hospitals, Yashoda Hospitals, and L V Prasad Eye Institute, have backed this initiative. More organizations are expected to join in support.
Prominent attendees at the event included Shekhar Reddy, Secretary General of the HCSC, Vikram Singh Mann, Additional CP, Law & Order, and other dignitaries.
