Hyderabad: The GHMC Commissioner, R V Karnan, has urged officials to quickly solve the drainage problems at Durgam Cheruvu. On Thursday, he visited the site with the Zonal Commissioner and other officials to assess the situation.
He instructed the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to regularly clean the sewer lines and take full responsibility for their upkeep. This is vital to stop sewage from spilling over onto walking paths and entering the lake, ensuring a clean and pleasant environment for visitors.
The Commissioner also told the Executive Engineer of the Lakes division to speed up the sewage pipeline diversion. The Raheja CSR team was encouraged to improve park facilities to enhance the lake area’s beauty.
During the visit, the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) was reviewed. It was suggested to perform NEERI (National Environmental Engineering Research Institute) water testing along with current third-party tests.
The review included the Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP) stormwater drain works. Officials were asked to finish this by September. The Zonal Commissioner was tasked with checking progress weekly and resolving any issues quickly.
