A breach in a lake has caused flooding in some residential areas in Warangal, the second largest city in Telangana. The breach occurred on the Pothana Nagar side of the lake due to heavy rainfall in the region over the past few days. This resulted in the inundation of adjacent areas such as Pothana Nagar, Rajiv Colony, and Saraswati Colony. Police and municipal authorities have alerted the residents.
Due to the possibility of the water level rising even further, residents have been advised to move to safer locations. The breach happened near a wall of a beautification project that was part of the Smart City Mission.
The lake has been overflowing from the weirs for the past six days due to continuous rainfall. The Warangal Municipal Commissioner, Rizwan Shaikh, stated that there is no major threat from the breach. Mayor Gundu Sudha Rani reassured the public that there is no need to panic and efforts are being made to fix the breach. Municipal Administration Minister K.T. Rama Rao has reviewed the situation with officials from Hyderabad. Several colonies in Warangal have already been flooded due to the relentless rainfall.
