Hyderabad: On Wednesday, a seminar at St Francis College for Women focused on the crucial role of communication in addressing environmental and climate change challenges. The event, named “Framing the Future: Environment, Climate Change & Communication,” was organized by the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism and brought together students and experts to discuss urgent ecological matters.
Prof T Uma Joseph, the college Principal, emphasized the need for informed conversations, highlighting Pope Leo’s Green Vatican Initiative as a strong example of advocacy. K Ravi Kumar, the Head of the Department, urged students to become influential storytellers and referenced global efforts like the Paris Agreement.
Dr Shailendra Boora, a specialist in environmental communication, delivered a thought-provoking speech. He highlighted the interconnected issues of environmental damage, public health, and unsustainable development. Dr Boora linked rising cancer rates to pollution and criticized the “Infinite Growth Model.”
He stressed the necessity for a “content revolution” in mass communication, focusing on truth and purpose. The seminar ended with a strong call for future communicators to support a sustainable future.
