Hyderabad: Tensions flared between the Congress and BRS over development projects in municipalities. BRS MLA T Harish Rao accused the government of neglecting constituencies represented by opposition MLAs, claiming they lacked necessary funds. Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu dismissed these claims and challenged Rao to a debate on pending contractor payments.
During discussions on the Telangana Municipalities and Panchayat Raj Amendment Bills, which aim to reserve 42% for Backward Classes (BCs), Harish Rao questioned the Congress’s dedication to their promises. He criticized the Congress for cutting municipal funding and ending programs like Pattana Pragathi. Rao also opposed fees related to the Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS), accusing the Congress of not fulfilling their election pledges.
In response, Sridhar Babu and other Congress legislators addressed Harish Rao’s criticisms in the Assembly. They held the previous BRS government responsible for various problems, including delayed payments to contractors who built new collectorates and other government buildings.
