Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) held another adoption event for Indie puppies on Sunday at Kasu Brahmananda Reddy Park in Banjara Hills. They encouraged people with the message, “Be a Hero. Adopt, Don’t Shop,” to welcome a new furry companion. At the event, 35 puppies were showcased, and 22 found new homes with dog enthusiasts.
GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan and Khairtabad Zonal Commissioner Anurag Jayanthi kicked off the event, highlighting the importance of adopting local puppies as family members. The Indie Puppy Adoption Mela aims to promote compassion, reduce the number of street dogs, and honor these often-overlooked animals. Indie dogs, known for their loyalty, are seen as protectors of both homes and humanity.
The event presented 35 puppies that had been dewormed and vaccinated. By the end of the day, 22 puppies were adopted into loving families, each adoption representing an act of kindness.
In a touching moment, Karnan personally handed the first puppy to Chinkakunta Raju of Shaikpet, marking the start of a caring relationship. He emphasized treating these dogs as family members deserving of love and lifelong companionship. He added that every adoption should be seen as a meaningful promise.
Addressing the crowd, the Commissioner spoke about the benefits of Indian native dogs, noting their resilience, intelligence, and loyalty. He pointed out that these dogs are well-suited to the local climate and lifestyle, reflecting the enduring spirit of the community.
RV Karnan announced that similar adoption events will take place in all GHMC zones to further encourage pet adoption.
The event was attended by notable figures such as Jubilee Hills Deputy Commissioner Sammaiah, Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Abdul Wakil, Deputy Director Dr. K Chakrapani Reddy, and various veterinary officers.
