The Congress party won 64 seats in the Assembly election in Telangana, but did not perform well in the State capital. Several prominent party leaders, including Dr C Rohin Reddy from Khairatabad, Mohammed Azharuddin from Jubilee Hills, M Anjan Kumar Yadav from Musheerabad, Kota Neelima from Sanathnagar, and P Vijaya Reddy from Khairtabad, lost in their respective constituencies. Mohammed Feroz Khan, the Nampally candidate, gave a tough fight to Mohammed Majid Hussain from AIMIM, but ultimately lost by a small margin. Mogili Sunitha, the State Mahila Congress president, received only 6,265 votes in Goshamahal. Shaik Akbar, a lesser-known party member, surprisingly received 29,699 votes. Venela Gaddar, daughter of Gaddar, received 20,825 votes in Secunderabad Cantonment.
