Delhi Police recently arrived at the home of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to question him about his comments on “sexual harassment” victims during the Bharat Jodo Yatra. The police had already sent a notification to Gandhi requesting information on the matter. Congress leaders criticized the BJP-led government for the police’s actions. The Congress party’s official Twitter handle accused the Modi government of being “rattled” by their questions on Adani and claimed that millions of women felt secure thanks to Rahul Gandhi and the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh questioned why the police had taken 45 days to reach Gandhi’s home. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot claimed that the police could not have acted without permission from Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Prominent Congressman Pawan Khera accused the government of trying to intimidate Gandhi to prevent him from speaking out and asked what actions had been taken in response to rape cases like Hathras and Kathua. The police had previously sent a questionnaire to Gandhi requesting further information about his remarks during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, where he spoke about women who had been gang-raped. According to the police, Gandhi had shared an experience where a girl came to him and discussed the atrocities she had faced, highlighting the issues women face in India.
